The playing field in Belgian dairy has been changing rapidly in recent months. Where for a long time there was a leading group with three competing highest payers, now a different selection seems to arise, with one leader for the time being and behind it a platoon of four together.
This is evident from the Boerenbusiness Belgian milk price comparator. In the last two months, A-ware has increased the distance with Milcobel and LDA by more than €3 per 100 liters. The other two have increased prices less and have been partly overtaken by Arla and FrieslandCampina. They were able to clear their backlog with a series of substantial price increases.
In terms of the current annual average, the picture looks a little different. Then the Walloon Laiterie des Ardennes is the leader with an average milk price of €47,70 per 100 liters of milk, while A-ware is still 16 cents below that. Arla scores third place, while Milcobel and FrieslandCampina follow in fourth and fifth.
The average milk price of the largest 5 processors increased from €37,94 per 100 liters in September 2021 to €60,29 in July. The reported milk prices do not include surcharges for pasture milk. Not all parties know this. They also apply to real contents of 4,3% fat and 3,5% protein, excluding VAT. Although the dairy market is not yet at a standstill, price increases in Belgian dairy have weakened somewhat in recent months.
