Cono Kaasmakers has not been the highest payer when it comes to milk money for a while. The prices of dairy commodities have risen faster than of branded products. This can also be felt at large dairy companies. Cono was therefore right about the advance price for August, albeit with mixed feelings.
Cono's basic milk price for August therefore remains the same at €56,20 per 100 kilos. To reach the same level as the average basic milk price of other dairy companies, all the allowances that Cono has are necessary. See for this Boerenbusiness Dutch Milk price calculator.
These surcharges amount to a total of €4,50 per 100 kilos. Fortunately for Cono members, almost everyone receives that set of benefits.
On average over all milk prices (including surcharges), Cono is about €3,00 per 100 kilos behind on a monthly basis. Part of this arrears may perhaps be made up later through additional payments. That's always there with Cono.
The brand manufacturer's dilemma
As a brand producer, Cono needs time to adjust the sales prices of its cheeses, but must also be careful not to price itself out of the market with overpriced cheese at a time with rapidly rising prices. It is the dilemma of every brand manufacturer, as stated in Westbeemster.
New members coming
Some members may be getting a little impatient with the current situation. However, a group of new members will soon join the producer of Beemster cheese, among other things. They have enough confidence to say goodbye to their current processor and join Cono.
