Environmentalists block milk transport in UK

5 September 2022 - Redactie Boerenbusiness

Environmentalists in the United Kingdom yesterday (September 4) protested at four Müller and Arla processing sites. Trucks were blocked and flags hung on silos, among other things. With the protests, the activists try to enforce a plant-based farming system.

In the morning, more than a hundred Animal Rebellion activists went to the four factories to shut down logistics. The location of Arla Aylesbury, among others, was blocked for a while. About 10% of the British milk lake is processed here. The police have arrested more than twenty activists, British media write. Also today (September 5) there are actions going on again.

Actions already announced
The activists are calling on the British government to support livestock farmers and fishermen in the transition to plant-based farming, as animal production would have a negative impact on the climate. In August they sent a letter to the British government to this effect. It already stated that there would be actions in September, if the government did not take action.

The activists were already in aisles of British supermarket Whole Foods last Saturday to discourage consumers from buying dairy products. This happened in cities such as London, Southhampton, Birmingham and Manchester.
