Minister Henk Staghouwer of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality (LNV) will only publish the promised new letter about the future of agriculture after Budget Day. The minister first awaits the findings of Johan Remkes, who has led the talks with the cabinet, fellow authorities and the agricultural sector. Staghouwer's conclusions include Staghouwer in his vision on the future prospects for Dutch agriculture and horticulture.
The House of Representatives was scathing about an earlier letter from Staghouwer about the perspective for farmers. On 23 June, he promised to send a new letter before Budget Day, containing the political choices for the future of agriculture.
Following the debate on the social unrest surrounding nitrogen on 30 June, a mediation process was started at the request of the House, in which the cabinet has appointed Remkes as discussion leader. "Mr Remkes has announced that he will present his findings in the second half of September and that these findings also relate to the perspective for agricultural entrepreneurs. I think it is important that we go through this process carefully. Remkes's findings and the input of the sector is of great value for the letter I am preparing about the future of agriculture, in which I want to provide clarity to the sector. For this I want to include Mr Remkes' findings in the letter that I prepared." Staghouwer told the House.
Staghouwer said last Thursday at the Agrifirm Youth Day in Apeldoorn where Boerenbusiness was present, to have the perspective letter ready. It was remarkable that he was now talking about the September letter and was already looking forward to not having a solution for all problems: 'The September letter does not contain all solutions for the future of agriculture. I need to be able to tell the honest story and be clear and clear about what the future is and how we can achieve it.”
