Rabobank appoints Belgian Stefaan Decraene as new CEO. In the course of this autumn, Decraene will succeed Wiebe Draijer as chairman of the Rabobank Group Executive Board for a four-year term. Draijer will retire on 1 October after completing his second term.
Rabobank announced this tonight (Monday 5 September). Decraene (1964) comes from BNP Paribas, where he has been a member of the Executive Committee for the past 10 years and is responsible for international retail and commercial banking. Previously, he was CEO of Dexia Bank Belgium. Decraene has been active in the banking world for over 30 years, Rabobank explains. According to Marjan Trompetter, chairman of the supervisory board of Rabobank, Decraene "fits seamlessly with the cooperative mentality of our bank."
Fulfilling our cooperative mission
Rabobank has "found a results-oriented leader" in Decraene, according to Trompetter. "He encourages collaboration and challenges personal development. Everything shows that people enjoy working with and for him. Especially now, that is of great importance to fulfill our cooperative mission in society." According to Trompetter, the Supervisory Board is confident that Decraene will continue to position Rabobank in the coming years on our important spearheads such as sustainability, climate and digitization, but also when it comes to our responsibilities under the Money Laundering Prevention Act. and finance and terrorism."
Decraene will start this fall, as soon as his current work is completed. Chief Financial Officer and member of the group management Bas Brouwers will act as interim chairman, Rabobank reports.
