The phosphate trade is running relatively smoothly, despite the progress of the year and the unmet needs of many dairy farmers. Prices are currently quite stable, but at a high level.
The price of purchasing rights varies between €169 and €170 per kilo of phosphate. That is the highest level since mid-2019.
Dairy farmers currently have some money to spend, but traders notice that they are concerned about the high purchase price. This results in procrastination and calm trading. An alternative is to opt for leasing, but those who want a skimming-free lease can only lease a limited number of rights. The price for these lease rights is currently around €19,50 per kilo.
Anyone who wants to lease more than 100 kilos also has to pay more. The price then goes to approximately €40 per kilo. Trade in these rights has started cautiously in recent weeks, but it is not yet a smooth trade.
