FrieslandCampina: sales of German branch delayed

20 September 2022 - Wouter Baan

The sale of the German consumer branch of FrieslandCampina to the German Unternehmensgruppe Theo Müller is delayed. The cartel authorities in Germany need more time to assess the deal, writes Lebensmittelzeitung.

Mid June the deal was announced by both parties, with the expectation that everything would still be in order this year. The latter is still very much open to question. The Bundeskartelambt has indicated that it needs more time and has started a follow-up investigation. This is expected to take three to four months. FrieslandCampina has stated in a response that it is confident that the deal will still take place in the fourth quarter.

The intention is for Theo Müller to take over three German production locations from FrieslandCampina in Cologne, Heilbronn and Scefflenz. Dairy brands such as Landliebe and Tuffi are also included in the transaction.
