Piet Adema the new Minister of Agriculture

3 October 2022 - Redactie Boerenbusiness - 19 comments

Piet Adema is the new Minister of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality (LNV) as of today (Monday 3 October). He will take the place of Henk Staghouwer on behalf of the ChristenUnie. His party announced this around noon.

Adema (1964) was previously deputy of the province of Friesland, acting mayor in Achtkarspelen, Tynaarlo and Borger-Odoorn and party chairman of the ChristenUnie. He is currently a director and supervisor in the entrepreneurial sector, including construction. Adema may be less known to the general public, but he was chairman of the Christian Union for eight years, from 2013 to 2021. Adema started his political career at the GPV, the Reformed Political Association, which merged into the ChristenUnie in 2001.

Agriculture is the future
In addition to politics, Adema has also been administratively active in business in recent years, but mainly in construction and not in agriculture. In a statement from the ChristenUnie, Adema says that agriculture has a future and must change, but also that peace is needed. "Agriculture has a future in our country. Yes, things have to change and most livestock farmers, arable farmers, horticulturists and fishermen know and want that too. But they do need clarity, peace and certainty about the future. Only then can confidence grow again in government. I want to work together with the sector on future-proof agriculture, with which we can move forward in the coming decades. With an eye for nature, climate and water quality. That is not an easy task, but I am sure that if we If we work well together, we can really handle it."

CU party chairman Gert Jan Segers reports in a tweet: 'It is now important that we do not stand against each other, but put our shoulders together for the agriculture of the future. With all his experience, Piet Adema is the right person for me to take on this important challenge together with the farmers.'

Good luck at the front, come in untrained and have no experience. But is quite old so his last job will be in politics.

Dear Jan, writing someone off in advance, without giving him the chance, is too short-sighted.

Bakker/minister was a flop. Construction contractor / minister ?????. Baker / minister probably still understood wheat flour, but the combination building / minister??????? Maybe plant gardens. He will start thinking small. For now: little confidence.

I have confidence in this person for the time being based on the information provided. On Wednesday he can let you know whether he wants to mean something for the sector or whether it will become a follower. If the latter appears, his function is short-lived and undesirable and it will soon be clear to him. He should begin new derogation consultations with the correct numbers on the table. If he doesn't and continues to lie like his predecessors, he can clean up the dredging himself. If the N ammonium standard for Dutch surface water is not brought into line with Germany and Belgium, then it will be time for a complete boycott of all government consultations, also in the regions.

CM there is often chaff among the wheat, D66 CDA and VVD are uglier at the moment, but will come true. Don't get too excited about it yourself.

Completely agree, agriculture cannot expect anything good from this cabinet.

Because Rutte has proven that nothing positive will come from that side.

That minister can earn a lot more for you if he is good .

Just trying seems really appropriate in a cabinet where the only ones who still worked for us (Omtzigt/Wilders/Fortuyn/Khadija Arib) were given an Exit.

If even NRC have to show in the margin what we should have confidence in:

https://www.nrc.nl/nieuws/2022/10/03/de-pijn-van-tien-jaar-gebrekkige-investeringen-a4143981

Outrageous, then fill the many pits of visionlessness with our money (inflation) lied and cheated by a robbery that we chose ourselves..!

You are right, but I think that the D66 votes are paid dearly by the I think entire Dutch SME. We were unlucky with Staghouwer, but it is a terribly difficult position to forgive and an office that cannot be aspired to, but he was a bad minister. Hopefully we can do something with Adema, but a lot of confidence????? I doubt it too. Hopefully we will get some clarity from Remkes this afternoon
