Armando Dood has a partnership with his parents and his wife Dorien. They have 125 dairy cows and also young stock. The peak times of the company are mainly when the cows are milked. They do this in the conventional way. Father takes care of the morning shift and Armando milks the cows in the evening.
First, Armando wanted to rent out his roof to a dairy cooperative and have them fill it with solar panels. When it was calculated that he would be much better off investing in a solar panel installation himself, he was shocked. "If this story is correct, then I should immediately email the dairy cooperative," was his response.
Fair calculation
And that's what he has done. "The financial picture that I was told beforehand came true." Armando uses the SDE++ subsidy and sells the surplus of energy that it generates to the grid. Armando: "The first year we had a good year straight away. The calculation of my energy yield has been exactly agreed. No golden mountains were promised to me."
Energy from the roof
Because Armando has invested in the generation of sustainable energy, this also influences his purchasing behavior of new equipment. "I am considering investing in electrical equipment. For example, I bought an electric irrigation pump this summer. Ideal that I can simply get the energy for it from my roof."
Sustainability
On the other side of the road is an insect hotel with a sign: 'This farmer is putting the flowers out'. Armando says he thinks it is nice to contribute as a farmer to sustainability in society. "Farmers are not seen in a positive light when it comes to the climate. I still want to show that we do care about nature."
