German and Belgian dairies top the list in the relaunched European milk price comparison of the European Dairy Farmers (EDF) and ZuivelNL. DMK, Hochwald and Milcobel come out as the best payers for August.
The publication of the milk price comparison was halted for almost two years, although the EDF continued to collect data, an executive said. Earlier this year, a new agreement was reached with ZuivelNL. According to the new agreements, this company will pay EDF €20.000 per year for supplying sufficient data.
ZuivelNL contribution lower than before
That amount will be visible as a separate item in the 2023 budget, ZuivelNL reports. Previously, when it was still called the milk price comparison of EDF and LTO, the annual contribution was €26.000. Maintenance of the model will be done jointly, as stated in the new agreements. In the past, that was entirely up to ZuivelNL.
The EDF comparison compares the milk prices of selected dairy companies in various EU member states. The old comparison listed the prices of several Dutch processors, but now only FrieslandCampina appears in the list, fourth after the above-mentioned companies.
Representative companies
It may well be that other companies in a particular country paid more or less, but the search for comparison companies looked at more or less representative companies for certain countries, not necessarily at the best payers. However, it has been clear in recent months that relatively high milk prices were paid, especially in Germany and Belgium. Compared to the old comparison, companies from more countries are now included, including Spain.
