Milk supply in the Netherlands continues to refute solid growth figures. Since June there has been an upward trend and it is getting stronger. The high milk prices stimulate dairy farmers to increase production.
The milk supply in September amounted to 1.105.982 tons. This is an increase of 3,85% compared to the same period last year. Over the first ten months, the Netherlands has produced more milk so far than last year. This has reversed the shrinkage that was visible earlier this year. The average fat percentage of 4,36% was also slightly higher than last year.
Average daily production last month was 36.866 tons, compared to 37.022 in August. Seasonally, there is still a decline in production that normally continues until mid-September.
Rising slaughter figures
The high milk prices in the Netherlands of more than €60 per kilo undoubtedly contribute to the increase in production. The question is whether growth will continue towards the autumn and winter months. Dairy farmers often decided to keep less productive cows longer during the summer months, but due to the tight roughage supplies they are now saying goodbye to this.
This is visible in the slaughter figures in our country, which clearly recovered from the summer dip from September onwards, although there has been a decline again in the past two weeks. It seems likely that the Dutch milk supply can also show growth figures in the fourth quarter.
