FrieslandCampina is reorganizing powder production at the factory in Bedum. 35 permanent jobs will be lost and one tower will be closed.
A spokesperson confirms this FrieslandCampina. In Bedum, basic whey powder is now produced in two towers, as a by-product of cheese production. As part of internal optimization and adjustment of production processes, one of the two towers will be closed and part of the whey processing will be transferred elsewhere.
The other tower remains in use. From now on, this will be used for the production of high-quality and organic Deminal 90. This is a high-quality, demineralized whey powder specialty. This product is mainly used for the production of infant food. A total of 50 jobs will be lost in Bedum as a result of the adjustment. Of these, 15 are temporary workers and 35 are permanent employees. Other work is being sought for them.
The surplus whey is transported elsewhere and possibly processed into whey powder.
