Growers are massively choosing very early/early silage maize
In recent years, maize growers on lighter soils have also opted en masse for early maturing maize varieties, which can be found on the Variety List very early/early. These ripen early and are less likely to suffer from drought damage. Thanks to breeding, the best varieties in this group are no longer inferior to mid-early varieties in terms of yield! Highlights on the list are:

  • LG 7005: new on the list, with the highest VEM yield. One of the earliest varieties, with wonderful figures: more than 400 grams of starch, 1.022 VEM and a yield of 22,4 tons. The absolute number 1 in VEM yield, therefore, from a lot of starch and a high plant digestibility. Little sensitive to corn head burn.
  • LG 7005: Dutch most sown maize variety for two years now; after six years of research still among the very best varieties with 22.000 kVEM/ha. Massive crop with large cobs, very early ripening.
  • LG Emeen: on the list since last year, early maturing maize with a very high yield and medium starch content: perfect for maize-rich rations.
  • LG 7005: reliable dual-purpose maize: large cobs and extremely healthy and sturdy crop, also later in the autumn. Can withstand drought (Hydraneo) above average.

New acquisition in mid-early silage maize
In the mid-early group we see two new varieties that stand head and shoulders above the rest: LG Meluseen en LG Gwendoleen. With respectively 4% and 3% more dry matter and VEM yield than the list average, the choice is easily made here. LG Meluseen is not very sensitive to head burn.
