Milcobel is entering into a new partnership with Arla for the valorisation of whey. Until now, Milcobel was responsible for this itself. The partnership with Arla Food Ingredients is also expected to result in additional additions and more milk money to be paid to members.
For Milcobel, the agreement is an important strategic step forward, the company says. Under the agreement, the dairy cooperative will supply whey protein retentate from its mozzarella production in Langemark. Arla Foods Ingredients further develops this raw material flow for the production of specialized ingredients for premium protein markets. This mainly concerns ingredients such as milk fat globule membrane (MFGM) for infant formula and whey protein hydrolysates for medical nutrition.
Reinforcement strategy
Francis Relaes, Managing Director of Milcobel Premium Ingredients: "We are particularly pleased with the partnership with Arla Foods Ingredients, a company that values innovation and is an expert in specialized protein ingredients. For Milcobel this means a further strengthening of our strategy and an important step forward in the valorization of our whey flow, which will translate into added value for our member dairy farmers."
In recent years, Arla has entered into several partnerships with other dairy companies, including the German DMK and the British First Milk.
