DOC Kaas and Milcobel also down with milk price

30 December 2022 - Wouter Baan

FrieslandCampina and Arla already implemented a reduction in the milk price in January. DOC Kaas will also go down in the new year. The Belgian dairy cooperative Milcobel is also working on the milk price again, but before December.

The milk price of DOC Cheese will decrease next month by €2,19 to €61,68 per 100 kilos, calculated at the standard contents and an annual supply of 1 million. Including bonuses, the milk price can rise to €64,43 per 100 kilos. In terms of mutation, DOC Kaas is therefore somewhere between FrieslandCampina and Arla. A downward movement was to be expected, given that the dairy market went downhill quickly in the fourth quarter.

After FrieslandCampina made significant cuts and Arla limited the damage, it was interesting to see how DOC Kaas would change before January. Especially because the northern dairy cooperative, which is part of the German DMK, has emerged as a top payer in 2022. They only have to tolerate Vreugdenhil in the annual overview. In the new year, DOC Kaas will temporarily maintain its high position in the milk price comparator to be maintained, although the reduction is significant. It is expected that other processors in the Netherlands will also make significant reductions.

Milcobel
Belgian dairy producers are more accurate in lowering the milk price than Dutch processors. For example, Milcobel reduces the standard payment price for December by €1,50 to €53,50 per 100 kilos, including premiums the milk price is just under €60. This is already the second reduction in a row. In an explanation, Milcobel indicates that dairy prices are under continued pressure, and there is also a lot of uncertainty about sales opportunities in the new year due to high inflation.
