Dairy cooperative Milcobel lowers the milk price for January with the same step as fellow company LDA did with the milk price for December. Serious steps are being taken downwards.
Milcobel states that it is nevertheless able to hold its own well. The price for January with a volume of 1,3 million and real contents of 43 grams of fat and 35 grams of protein per liter amounts to €53,81 per 100 liters. At the legal Belgian contents, the milk price is €50,50 per 100 liters.
That is not slightly more than LDA pays for December, but less than what the other major players in the Belgian market pay, as also appears from the Belgian Milk Price Comparator van Boerenbusiness.
Downward line
Milcobel notes that the dairy markets remain in a downward trend, mainly due to a lot of uncertainty about the situation in China. It is not clear what the effect of the corona epidemic is on economic growth and consumption there and what the stock situation is. In addition, high inflation and rising labor costs strongly influence the international dairy market. It all results in lower milk prices for the farmer.
