Following FrieslandCampina, the Scandinavian dairy cooperative Arla has also reduced the milk price for February, albeit to a milder extent than the Dutch dairy giant did.
Arla reduces the milk price by more than €3 to a basic payment price of €58,12 per 100 kilos that Dutch dairy farmers can afford. In the Dutch Milk price calculator they are almost €3 higher than FrieslandCampina, which took €4 off the milk price for February. Including bonuses and premiums, the milk price can rise to a maximum of €61,27.
Explaining the change, Arla says that high inflation leads to a drop in demand on the store shelves, putting pressure on dairy prices. This obviously also puts pressure on the milk price. Arla says it is aware that the costs for dairy farmers are quite high, which is why they are trying to limit the price drop as much as possible.
