The VanDrie Group sources almost two-thirds of its calves for meat production from domestic livestock farmers, and another 30% comes from Germany. This has virtually brought an end to distant animal transports.
This reports the VanDrie Group. To be precise, the integration collects 63% of the calves from farmers in the Netherlands. The vast majority of the remaining 37% comes from Germany. Only 8% of all calves supplied still come from other EU member states, according to the company.
Much less mileage
Compared to the reference year 2009, the number of transport kilometers in 2021 has decreased by 51%. Especially between 2015 and 2017, the number of kilometers driven has been reduced sharply.
On average, the animals are also transported much better and more comfortably. Most cars are almost closed. As a result, the calves receive fewer external stimuli during transport, such as wind, draught, noise and cold, which ensures that the animals experience less stress. Good ventilation systems are also present in the truck. At high temperatures fewer or no animals are transported.
