The Dutch milk supply fell relatively sharply in February compared to the previous month, but at the same time remains clearly above the level of previous years. This is evident from new data from the RVO.
The total milk supply decreased by almost 112 million kilos, or 8,2% compared to January. Total fat production also fell, by a total of more than 4.300 tons, or 7,8%. This indicates that the milk became slightly thicker than in January. At that time the average fat content was 4,57%, in February it was 4,59%.
The decline in milk supply in February follows the usual seasonal pattern.
Compared to February 2022, the supply last month was at a higher level in terms of both volume of milk and quantity of milk fat, with successive increases of 4,1% and 5,9%.
Although milk supply is high, it is not at a record level. In 2020, the supply was higher, with a much lower average milk price.
