Hochwald acquires German brand FrieslandCampina

29 March 2023 - Klaas van der Horst

Hochwald Foods bought the Tuffi dairy brand from competitor Theo Müller, who in turn bought it from FrieslandCampina. However, Müller was not allowed to keep it by the German cartel authorities. Hochwald also acquires the license for Landliebe desserts.

The German Federal Cartel Office and Hochwald announced this. Müller received in February the delayed permission to take over FrieslandCampina's German consumer dairy business, but the Tüffi and Landliebe brands had to be disposed of or licensed again. For Hochwald, the Tuffi brand in particular is a nice addition to the range, especially because it also taps into a larger sales area geographically in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), according to the company itself.

Home market product
Hochwald also states that Tuffi is now becoming a real home-grown brand again: "We want to further develop Tuffi vigorously and make it a home market brand from NRW for NRW again."
An acquisition price has not been announced.

In addition to Tuffi and Landliebe, Hochwald has the brands Bärenmarke, Lünebest, Glücksklee, and of course Hochwald.
The cooperative company has around 3.000 members in the western part of central Germany and also has a factory in the Netherlands. In addition to consumer dairy, it also makes products for export (mainly condensed milk) and for the business-to-business market.
