Milk production in the Netherlands was also well ahead of the same period last year in April. However, the growth shows a small decline compared to the milk supply figures in March.
Dutch milk production last month amounted to 1.192.161 tons, according to figures from RVO. This is an increase of 3,25% compared to the same period last year. This means that growth shows a small decrease compared to March.
Fat production amounted to 54.452 tons. Due to a significantly higher fat percentage in the milk (4,57%), this is an increase of more than 5%. This is the highest level since 2016. Average daily production was 39.738 tonnes in April, compared to 39.570 in March. The increase will continue until mid-May, after which the seasonal decline will begin.
Liquid market undervalued
The ample supply is putting pressure on the liquid dairy market. The prices for cream and skimmed milk concentrate have been significantly undervalued for a long time compared to the solid end components butter and skimmed milk powder. In the meantime, liquid prices are picking up again. Spot milk prices are below €30 per 100 kilos and are therefore almost €15 below the payment prices.
