Dairy cooperative Milcobel was the first to 'blink its eyes' with the milk price for May. Of the major players in the Belgian market, it is said to be the first to go below a limit below which the rest does not want to go, but that is not entirely true.
FrieslandCampina and Arla have previously gone below the limit of €40,00 per 100 liters in Belgium, but they receive slightly less attention in Belgium. Laiterie des Ardennes and A-ware have so far been able to keep their prices at €40,00 per 100 liters (as a price at Belgian standard contents).
Milcobel says it will use a standard milk price of €39,00 per 100 liters for May. This corresponds to a real milk price paid of €43,20 per 100 liters with maximum premiums and 43 grams of fat and 35 grams of protein per liter. For the reduction, Milcobel refers to the declining milk prices everywhere and the volatile market.
According to the Belgian Milk Price Comparator Boerenbusiness Milcobel is still the second payer in the country for the month of May, after A-ware.
In April the picture was quite different. At that time, Arla and FrieslandCampina paid the most. However, they have since significantly reduced their prices. A-ware took a step back and is now listed as the highest.
