In terms of milk supply, May brought a somewhat predictable result. The availability of fresh grass yielded more litres, but with less fat and protein. Compared to May last year, there was still an increase in the percentage of ingredients.
This is evident from the latest milk supply figures from the government service RVO. Compared to May last year, milk supply increased by 1,9% in volume, while the fat percentage in the milk was 3,7% higher.
Things are a little calmer than in April. Compared to the same month in 2022, there was a visible volume growth of 3,3%, while the fat percentage in the milk was 5,4% higher than in April 2022.
For this year's supply, it is striking that while milk supply fell by 2,8% in April compared to March, there was a visible increase in the number of kilos delivered in May compared to April by 3,5%.
The story is different for the fat (and protein) content. In April the supply of fat increased by 3,7%, in May 0,1% less fat was delivered for a much larger number of kilos of milk.
