De Fryske, maker of sustainable, bird-friendly cheeses in Lemmer, needs 750.000 euros to grow further, said initiator Catharinus Wierda last week with us in the studio. Within two days of launching on the green sharefunding platform Broccoli, De Fryske has already raised that amount. Due to the success, there will be a second round for which interested parties can now register.
The cheese maker, which was founded in 2017, announced last month become a cooperative and start selling shares. According to De Fryske, the fact that the intended amount was collected so quickly proves that "not only the Fryske farmers, but also consumers believe in the cheese maker's mission: to change the dairy system in a sustainable way." The investment amount is used to increase production and cheese stock. 212 new co-owners have joined, who have invested an average of € 3.500.
Second sharefunding after summer
In a statement, De Fryske writes that he is surprised by the speed with which the target amount was raised. "Interested parties had two weeks to reserve certificates. Half of the amount had already been collected. Once the site was live, the target amount of €750.000 was reached within two days." Wierda: "It has gone so fast that many people missed out, I'm already getting apps and messages about that. We expect to do a second share fund round after the summer. Interested parties can already register now on our site and then be the first to participate."
