FrieslandCampina has resumed the production of butter, butter oil and milk filtration products in Lochem, the company reports. A week ago, the factory came to a standstill due to a short circuit and a fire in an attic space.
The partial resumption of processing is possible through the joint efforts of the local team, colleagues in the supply chain, milk logistics and sales, FrieslandCampina said.
This means that said products can be delivered to customers again.
Milk powder production is still at a standstill
The production of milk powder is still at a standstill. That is understandable, because the fire started near the powder tower. That's where the most damage was caused. The measures that need to be taken to resume production here are currently being investigated.
FrieslandCampina cannot yet say how long it will take before the powder towers can be put back into use.
Immediately after the fire, there was pressure on the liquid dairy market in the Netherlands, because it proved difficult to process all the milk in other locations. This week's move will reduce this pressure, which could also be beneficial for the yields of milk, cream and butter.
The factory in Lochem can process 600 to 800 million kilos of milk per year.
