Albert de Groot officially new chairman NZO
The board of the Dutch Dairy Organization (NZO) has appointed Albert de Groot as chairman. He succeeds Hein Schumacher, who recently stepped down following his move to Unilever.
Albert de Groot is CEO of Vreugdenhil Dairy Foods and was already vice-chairman of the NZO board. On behalf of the NZO, he is also a member of the board of the European Dairy Association, the umbrella organization of the European dairy industry. He is also a member of the executive board of VNO-NCW.
Given the size and voting weight within the NZO, FrieslandCampina should be allowed to supply the chairman again, but that did not happen. The new CEO Jan Dirk van Karnebeek is still getting acquainted with the dairy company itself. De Groot had been acting chairman for some time and was well trained.
He says in a press release that it is 'an honor to become chairman of the NZO in these times of great challenges'. "I am therefore looking forward to continuing to build a future-proof dairy sector together with the members."
In that press release you can almost read as if you are very much looking forward to helping the dairy industry through difficult times.
"That is too short-sighted. I don't do the work alone. All members are represented in the NZO. We tackle the tasks together. I get to chair and I certainly see that as an honor."
In daily practice there was already a lot of work on your shoulders, and Vreugdenhil is not a company with an extensive management layer. Doesn't such a position at the NZO require a lot of extra effort that your own company can also use?
"Much of the work is an extension of the activities of both us and the other NZO members. The NZO has an excellent secretariat, with a solid director. It is a team that is well versed in the matter. Moreover, I was as deputy chairman already somewhat worked in."
For how long is the appointment valid?
"There is no time associated with this appointment. This is always done in consultation with the board and the general meeting of members."
