Cartel service is not bothering ForFarmers this time

29 September 2023 - Wouter Baan

ForFarmers has received the green light from the competition authorities for the sale of the Belgian activities to Arvesta. This is probably a relief for the feed company, given that the British cartel agency was a spoilsport in a proposed merger last year.

With the transaction ForFarmers is divesting 420.000 tons of Arvesta, for which €25 million net will be collected. The deal, which was announced in early April, will be completed in mid-October. ForFarmers indicates that the sale of the activities in Belgium fits in with its strategy, which says the emphasis is on ecological and economic returns.

The disappearance of Belgian sales volumes has now largely been compensated for a takeover from a Polish poultry feed producer. The authorities in the country still have to agree to this.

More than a year ago, ForFarmers announced that its British activities would merge with 2Agriculture, but the British cartel watchdog ultimately rejected this. This is out of fear of an overly dominant market position after the merger.
