FrieslandCampina and Hochwald Foods are jointly optimizing milk transport for their German members. Part of FrieslandCampina's German milk goes to a Hochwald factory, and part of the Hochwald milk east of Limburg goes to Veghel.
Both cooperatives have entered into an agreement about this. This significantly limits the number of transport kilometers and the volume of CO2 emissions (more than 1.000 tons of CO2, it has been calculated). It also saves a lot of costs, both companies indicate.
No strange RMOs
The members of FrieslandCampina and Hochwald will not see any strange RMOs on their property. Everyone continues to use their own transport, but the destination of the RMOs changes. For example, FrieslandCampina trucks will go to Mechernich, trucks from Hochwald to Veghel.
It is nothing new for the Netherlands. In our country, exchanging milk is the most normal thing in the world. The agreement has no consequences for the situation in Friesland. There, the trucks from FrieslandCampina and Hochwald will continue to drive their own routes. The collaboration only applies to German members.
Müller delivery stops
Hochwald has a considerable number of members along the eastern border of central and southern Netherlands, but no factory nearby. Since the sale of the German factories to Theo Müller (UTM), FrieslandCampina still has members, but no longer has its own processing in Germany . Until now, part of the German member milk was still supplied to UTM, but that will also stop at the end of this month. Bringing member milk from deep in central Germany to Veghel is expensive, which is why both cooperatives have found each other in an exchange of milk.
According to FrieslandCampina and Hochwald, the collaboration concerns a multi-year agreement based on equality.
