"The National VEM competition was started years ago because we wanted to gain insight into the practical results of the maize varieties in our country. In addition to all the test field data, the more than 1.000 silage analyzes that we receive annually provide a very good picture of how the varieties perform," says Jos Groot Koerkamp from LG.
Maximum nutritional value
"For years, the focus in our Dutch maize breeding program has been on early varieties with the highest possible nutritional value. In silage maize, that nutritional value comes from the cob and from the residual plant. Good digestibility of the residual plant provides a lot of extra nutritional value. That is what we do at LG We see that we are leading the way every year in the silage results submitted. Last year, LG corn silages recorded an average of 22 VEM per kg dry matter higher than the other silages."
