Milcobel draws hope from the rising quotations for various dairy products such as cream, butter, whey and mozzarella. The upward trend in these commodities and the better sales contracts for the new year have given the cooperative courage to increase the November milk price.
This milk price will be increased by €1,00 to €36,00 per 100 liters at the legal Belgian contents. The milk price at real Belgian contents increases by €1,03 to €39,01 per 100 liters. This is the price for an annual supply of 1,3 million liters.
The increase is the first plus that Milcobel has recorded this year. The increase comes after an earlier signal from Laiterie des Ardennes that the milk price for October with 50 centst increased.
Despite these increases, the average milk price in Belgium remains clearly below €40,00 per 100 liters of milk, according to the Belgian Milk Price Comparator van Boerenbusiness.
The higher prices for a series of dairy raw materials are favorable for securing (higher) contracts with customers for the first quarter of next year. This makes a higher milk price possible for members.
However, the situation on the demand side remains uncertain, Milcobel notes. The macroeconomic situation, with high inflation and ditto interest rates, together with the unrest in various export countries, still creates quite a lot of uncertainty in the longer term.
