FransenGerrits buys into feed company Koenis

FransenGerrits has taken a minority interest in livestock feed company Koenis from Opmeer in North Holland. In the new construction, the companies will jointly build a compound feed factory.

Livestock feed company Koenis is a regional player that mainly focuses on the North Holland market. About 45.000 tons of compound feed is produced annually for cattle, sheep and goats. With the minority interest, FransenGerrits shifts the field to another part of the Netherlands. The company now operates mainly in the south and produces approximately 800.000 tonnes, mainly pig feed. 

A press release points to dynamic market conditions that must be responded to. Shrinking animal numbers and the transition to circular animal feed, among other things, require a different approach.

New factory
The current Koenis factory needs to be replaced and has now been sold to a project developer. Construction of a new factory will start this year at Agriport Middenmeer together with FransenGerrits. Despite the challenging market conditions, both companies are optimistic about the future. "The fact that few farmers are expected to stop in the north of North Holland is an advantage. The area, with lots of grass and enough space, is ideal for dairy farming," the press release states.
