The Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) is investigating the legality of the payments that dairy farmers make to ZuivelNL via the dairy industry. ZuivelNL chairman Arjan Schimmel confirms this.
The questions arise in response to complaints from a group of farmers who object to the automatic payment (the deduction via the milk payment settlement). These complaints were submitted several years ago, but ACM has been more active in investigating them in recent months.
The ACM itself does not make any statements about ongoing investigations. The farmers involved also do not want to comment.
According to some rumors, there was a raid on ZuivelNL. This is not the case. Questions are simply asked.
According to Schimmel, such investigations take place more often. He refers to an earlier ACM study in connection with KoeMonitor. It then emerged that if ZuivelNL continues to properly inform farmers about what the organization does, stays in touch with them and of course observes the rules, the ACM would take no further action. He cannot make any further statements about the ongoing investigation.
ZuivelNL is a trade organization in which chain parties meet and consult with each other. The organization also carries out service tasks.
