If the phosphate rights trade was not already at a standstill, it has become even quieter in the last few weeks. Buyers are even more hesitant or don't have the money.
That is the assessment of various traders. It's about the average image. There will always be dairy farmers who continue to buy something, but the wet, cold weather and the not always optimal roughage take their toll. Extra money needs to be spent on manure removal and less milk money comes in.
The fear that outgoing Minister Piet Adema could soon start with an additional skimming of phosphate rights in trade gave some pressure in the past period to buyers and sellers to complete some transactions as quickly as possible, but the pressure is there not anymore now that any additional skimming will no longer take place before January 1, 2025. That also makes the market less lively.
