Last year, Dutch milk supply almost returned to the 2020 level, reaching 14 billion kilos. In the intervening years, production was slightly lower. This was reported by ZuivelNL in the latest edition of 'Dairy in figures'.
Milk imports did decline, but exports rose considerably. To start with the latter: according to figures from ZuivelNL, 784 million kilos of raw milk were sold across the border last year. That is almost 270 million kilos more than in 2022, the year before.
The volume of imported milk was considerably lower last year than in 2022. A total of 2023 billion kilos were imported into the Netherlands in 1,056. That was around 200 million kilos less than in 2022. The majority of the imported milk came from Germany.
Last year, it was almost 727 million kilos. The second country of origin was Belgium, with almost 308 million litres of milk. Imports from other member states were negligible in size.
