Cono Cheesemakers has increased the milk price for August slightly more than the average of Dutch processors for the previous month. However, the bar has been set higher for the current month.
In August, Cono increased the milk price by €1,40 per 100 kilos. That is 17 cents more than the average milk price increase for this month. The increase was again slightly more about the protein than about the fat, it turns out.
Cono Cheesemakers itself reports paying an average of €51,86 per 100 kilos of milk. That is €3,76 more than the basic milk price from the milk price comparison tool, but also 74 cents less than what can be achieved with standard fat and protein contents. In the summer, however, the fat and protein contents are usually slightly lower than normal. So that has an effect, but not all members score all the Caring Dairy points that can be achieved and meet all the sustainability requirements.
It is striking that Cono has often been on par with Lactalis Leerdammer in terms of milk price in recent months, except for the Caring Dairy component. Cono scores a clear plus in that, the Boerenbusiness Milk price comparisonr see. Both Cono and Lactalis are manufacturers of branded cheese that, now that foil cheese prices are rising rapidly, have to pull out all the stops to keep up. The prices of natural and branded cheese move up more slowly in the market, but can then also remain high for longer.
Leerdammer already increased the milk price for September by €1,82 per 100 kilos. That is just below the current monthly average of €1,88 per 100 kilos. In about three weeks it will become clear what Cono does.
