It has become a fixed pattern. Every time a minister threatens to intervene in the manure market, or better, every time it is thought that intervention in the manure market is possible, the price of phosphate rights shoots up. Short again.
That was also the case at the end of last week after the publication of the manure letter from Minister Femke Wiersma. The price of purchase rights shot up €8 to €10 per kilo, but only for two to three days. Then the panic subsided and the trade calmed down.
Currently, the price for both purchase and lease rights is almost back to the same level as before the letter.

After all, the minister has only announced intentions. Most dairy farmers are busy with their daily activities again.
Anyone who wants to continue developing in the coming years now has the opportunity to obtain phosphate relatively cheaply. It is not certain that phosphate rights will still be so cheap next year. Moreover, buying is now more attractive than leasing. Buying gives more certainty for the coming years, and without a discount.
