Additional payment guaranteed for FrieslandCampina members

27 September 2024 - Klaas van der Horst

FrieslandCampina members can expect to receive a back payment for the current year. The second half of 2024 is also good, according to CEO Jan Derck van Karnebeek. He believes that the company is back on track.

When presenting the half-year figures at the end of July, FrieslandCampina was still cautious. Over the first half of the year, a pro-forma additional payment determined, but it was not paid out, due to an uncertain second half. In the meantime, there is more clarity. Things are expected to continue as usual.

Van Karnebeek describes the business climate for the company this year as moderately good, 'not very good, but not bad either'. The company is performing as expected, also when it comes to the planned savings. "We are completely on schedule with that." The company's cash position is also improving more and more, according to the CEO.

This creates room for investments, such as in the factory in Workum. There, a whey evaporator is being replaced by an ultrafiltration installation. 30 million is being spent on this. However, the adjustment also results in lower CO2 emissions and lower water consumption.

Cooperative chairman Sybren Attema announced that he will be available for another two years, for which the articles of association will have to be amended once more.

Attema is also positive about how the company and the cooperative are developing. Dairy farmers have had a difficult time, but confidence is returning, especially among the younger generation, and that gives him courage, he says. According to him, sustainability is no longer seen as pressure, but as an opportunity. "The battle has been made," says Attema. However, milk production will still shrink due to the policy in recent years, but he cannot provide any figures for that.
