The dairy farm of Sander and Marianne Vijverberg is located in an arable farming region: the Hoeksche Waard (South Holland). Sander is a driven entrepreneur, who always tries to improve in the stable and in his roughage crops.
Sander grows grass on the 85 hectares of clay soil, silage corn and field beans. He also works with arable farming around his company to ensure that field beans to grow. "For the arable farmer it is a nice rest crop, which provides nitrogen and yields many CAP points. And for our dairy cattle it is a very nice substitute for concentrated feed."
More silage maize
Sander strives for a healthy herd that performs well on as much home-grown feed as possible. Earlier this year, he adjusted the ration from 50-50 to 60-40 silage maize-grass. "Since then, things have gone even better, the cows are in better condition and production has increased considerably."
