Müller UK, a subsidiary of Unternehmensgruppe Theo Müller, has been given the opportunity to acquire Yew Tree Dairy in Lancashire. Müller UK wants to use Yew Tree to produce and export more milk powder. The company also wants to significantly increase the capacity of the company.
The takeover was announced in June of this year, but only now has the British competition authority CMA given its approval for the takeover.
Muller UK is the second largest dairy company in the UK, after Arla UK, with a turnover of around €2,8 billion. Family-owned Yew Tree Dairy is a lot smaller, with a turnover of almost €258 million.
Yew Tree Dairy produces a fairly traditional range of dairy products, mainly consisting of various types of drinking milk and liquid semi-finished products as well as milk powders. In recent years it has also offered dairy alternatives. Müller UK produces a wider range of products, notably also a range of popular yoghurts.
Arla UK remains the largest British dairy company after the takeover of Yew Tree by Müller.
