Waiting buyers depress phosphate rights price

30 October 2024 - Klaas van der Horst - 2 comments

The price of phosphate rights continues to fall. Particularly that of the purchase rights. The upcoming skimming of 30% in the trading of phosphate does not yet encourage buyers to quickly buy some more at a lower skimming.

The mood is still wait-and-see, according to traders. Buyers apparently think there is still time to buy more rights. Or they think that new bargains will come onto the market in the course of next year, assuming that there will be no change in the rules in the meantime.

There is even less interest in lease rights, if possible. The price drops by €1,50 to €9,50 per kilo, which is the lowest level since DCA started listing lease rights at the end of 2020. There is a lot of supply of skimming-free lease, traders report, but there is not much demand for this either.

Although the phosphate market in dairy farming has seemed relatively calm for months, according to brokers, this year until October there has been about the same amount of trading as last year. Only this month has trading almost completely stopped, or so the impression goes.
