A-Ware also offers a CO2 reduction premium in Belgium

7 November 2024 - Klaas van der Horst - 2 comments

Royal A-ware will use Farmdesk in Belgium to calculate the climate impact of milk. The suppliers have been informed about this. A premium can be collected for the forwarding of data via the Farmdesk app and for other climate initiatives. In the Netherlands, this premium is currently €1,00 per 100 kilos; what this will be in Belgium is not yet known.

The international family business is making its entire dairy chain more sustainable with the aim of being net zero for CO2 in 2050. The ambition is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions around the farm by 2030% by 30.

Dairy farmers can provide Farmdesk with data to calculate the climate score. In the long term, this data also provides participating dairy farmers with insight into the economic performance of their company.
A-ware also inventories which initiatives dairy farmers are already taking to reduce emissions. For supplying the data and passing on the initiatives already taken, dairy farmers receive a footprint premium.

For Royal A-ware, the starting point for making the dairy chain more sustainable is the continued benefit for all links: dairy farmers must be able to continue farming and customers must continue to choose A-ware's dairy products with the highest possible nutritional value and the lowest possible impact on people, animals and the environment.

Dairy farmers choose whether they want to qualify for a premium. This also applies to the footprint premium. "We attach great value to free choice for dairy farmers. For us, that is the basis of the respectful collaboration with dairy farmers. That collaboration is essential to be able to make the chain more sustainable. With the footprint premium, we encourage the provision of data and taking steps in this area," says Koen Goethals, manager of Milk Affairs at A-ware Belgium in a press release. "We also want to create awareness: there is a suitable way for every dairy farm to work on reducing the footprint. In addition, Farmdesk can also provide a dairy farmer with insight in the long term that can be used to manage the economic performance of the company."

Royal A-ware chooses Farmdesk in Belgium because of its ease of use for dairy farmers. For example, there is an app available that makes it easy to enter updates during stable work. It also meets the wishes of the dairy producer himself and it is possible to create data links, so that part of the required data is automatically read in. This data is never shared with third parties without the dairy farmer's permission, the company assures.

Dairy farmers who supply Royal A-ware in the Netherlands use the KringloopWijzer to calculate their footprint.
