Cono Kaasmakers has reached a preliminary agreement on participation in Ikwileerlijkezuivel.nl, the initiative of entrepreneur Rik Hoogenberg that took over the production location of Ausnutria in Ommen earlier this year. Hoogenberg is happy with the agreement with Cono. Ikwileerlijkezuivel.nl has also started collecting milk. The coming months will be scaled up further and the first products will appear on the shelves.
Eight dairy farmers contracted
Hoogenberg also indicates that they recently started collecting milk. In the meantime, eight dairy farmers have been contracted. These companies will start collecting milk sometime in the coming months. There are also a handful of dairy farmers on the waiting list to join. "In addition, in the past few months, around 200 dairy farmers have contacted us who are interested." The dairy farmers who have already been contracted come from Overijssel and Gelderland. Some of them have already made progress with sustainability aspects such as land-based farming. Others still have to take steps in this area, Hoogenberg indicates.
The factory in Ommen has an annual production capacity of 120 million kilos of milk. The first 8 million of these will be filled in by Ikwileerlijkezuivel.nl itself from 2025 with the contracted volume. Greek yoghurt will be made from this for SuperUnie. In addition, they are also looking into putting their own cream on the market. "We already produce the cream for our yoghurt." When asked whether the current (record) high cream prices are the reason for this step, Hoogenberg says laughing: "Cream is indeed expensive at the moment and therefore interesting, although that will probably decrease again around Christmas."
Growing steadily
Hoogenberg's goal is to grow steadily. "We can scale up, but we want to do that gradually. We are opting for a controlled approach in order to be able to guarantee the quality that we strive for. Hoogenberg will continue to use the remaining capacity of the factory for Ausnutria for the time being, as agreed upon when the factory was acquired.
