Compound feed supplier Gijs, which stands for Gelre IJsselstreek, sold 15% more compound feed last year. Sales have thus passed the 100.000 tonne mark. The company attributes the strong growth in a shrinking market to increased sales in the Northern Netherlands and Belgium.
In 2023, Gijs already grew by 14% and last year another 15% was added. In 2024, compound feed sales showed an increase of 21% for dairy cattle, while goat farming recorded a growth of over 7%. There was also a positive customer balance in these sectors. The growth is due to extra focus on sales in dairy farming in the Northern Netherlands and goat farming in Belgium.
Beyond 100.000 tons
The company does not mention exact tonnages this year, but they can be easily calculated. Last year, owner Erik Reefhuis had a interview with Boerenbusiness know that compound feed sales had grown to 2023 tons in 95.000. Last year, sales grew to almost 110.000 tons of compound feed, which the company has produced at eleven production locations spread throughout the Netherlands. Gijs mainly rents (excess) capacity from third parties. With an unconventional approach, the company also sees room for growth in a shrinking market.
