The Belgian dairy cooperative Milcobel has further reduced the milk price for February and is doing so slightly more drastically than the other players on the market.
Milcobel is reducing this month by €1,55 per 100 kilos, bringing the basic milk price to €51,93. The reduction is slightly more substantial than that which A-ware (-€0,77), Vreugdenhil Dairy Foods (-€0,96) and future merger partner FrieslandCampina (-€1) previously implemented for February. In the Dutch Milk price calculator For Belgium, Milcobel currently occupies last place, although LDA has yet to announce the February milk price.
Waiting market
In an explanation of the milk price, Milcobel nevertheless states that it is following the market with the implemented reduction for February. There is talk of a wait-and-see dairy market, with the fat side in particular moving downwards. According to the Belgian cooperative, it is still unclear what milk production will do this spring. Something that plays a broader role in the market than just in Belgium.
Since the summer of 2024, production in Belgium has fallen behind compared to 2023, partly due to outbreaks of bluetongue. In December, the supply was 371.05 tonnes, 4,05% behind the same month a year earlier and also the lowest since 2021, according to Eurostat figures.
