The start of the manure season marks the start of the grass season. The challenge is to grow enough high-quality roughage with the tight standards. How do you tackle that? Cultivation specialist Antoon Verhoeven gives practical tips.
In the video, payroll and transport company Kasteel Meeuwen is dragging hoses on grassland in Drongelen (North Brabant) on Monday 17 March. Watch Antoon's tips:
"If the carrying capacity allows it, spread animal manure as early as possible in the spring. Make sure that you distribute the manure well and dilute it with water if necessary for good use. Then you start stacking with artificial fertilizer, then definitely also pay attention to supplementing with sulfur and potassium if necessary."
Inspecting the turf
"The driver on the manure tank or drag hose has a good view of how the grass sod comes out of the winter. So pay attention to this or consult with your contractor to see if there are plots or places where you will soon have to reseed. Always use a real overseeding mixture such as Havera 3 for the best result.'
