Royal A-ware has notified the acquisition of the Dairy Food Group to the European Commission. This is normally the last step in an acquisition process. The Belgian newspaper De Tijd reports that there would be a delay in this process and further investigation would follow. However, the Commission does not provide any indications for this.
The parties involved did not comment, which is customary when competition authorities have to give a judgment. A-ware made in July last year the intention to take over was announced, but did not mention a term and also indicated that approval was required. The previous takeover of the FrieslandCampina milk powder factory in Aalter by A-ware was also not formally completed within a few months.
The formal notification of a takeover is often the final part of a longer process that precedes it.
FrieslandCampina and Milcobel announced in mid-December that they want to merge, but no formal European approval has been requested for this (although that was a bit more recently). These two parties have indicated when they expect the merger to be completed: end of 2025.
