Depending on the prices that other processors still determine for this month, the Index for April can still change. A first provisional index is calculated when the prices of 75% or more of the milk volume that the processors in question represent are known.

Arla has kept the milk price for April basically the same as over the past 4 months, although a few cents have been added to the milk price due to changing exchange rates. The greatest impact has been the milk price increase of FrieslandCampina, but the higher milk price of A-ware also contributed to the increased index.

The milk price index for the Netherlands was introduced in March by DCA Market Intelligence. For dairy farming, it is an additional instrument to objectively monitor the overall development of milk prices. It also enables professionals in the dairy sector to get an overview of market developments in various links in the chain at a glance.

Preliminary calculation
A provisional calculation in the current month already indicates a direction, but the final index can still deviate slightly. When the index was introduced in March, a provisional price of €53 per 100 kilos was calculated, currently, now that the prices for the vast majority of the monthly milk volume are known, the index stands at €53,07 per 100 kilos.

The index is calculated annually based on the milk volume of the eight separate processors that are also included in the Milk price comparator van BoerenbusinessThe index is based on these prices for farm milk, excluding allowances and premiums for, among other things, grazing and other sustainability goals.
