Leerdammer can move forward with milk price system

14 April 2025 - Klaas van der Horst

Lactalis Leerdammer has presented a new, transparent milk price system to suppliers, the company reports. According to the company, the system complies with the Unfair Commercial Practices Act (OHP) and has also been coordinated with the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM). This has been confirmed.

"ACM's condition was that Lactalis must present a transparent pricing system to its suppliers, a system that contains sufficient objective elements. ACM has tested the pricing system and is of the opinion that it now complies," responded an ACM spokesperson.
The authority also points out that Lactalis involved a delegation of suppliers in drawing up the new price system. However, it is not a price dictate, she indicates. "Suppliers also have the option of not agreeing to the conditions."

Because not everyone attended the supplier meetings of the past weeks, the system has now also been sent to all supplying livestock farmers. With this, Leerdammer has shown that it is actively working on informing the livestock farmers.

In September 2024, the ACM a penalty under penalty of payment to Lactalis Leerdammer. This was for violating the Wet OHP. The company may not change the milk price unilaterally, the ACM stated at the time. This principle has not changed, which is why Leerdammer involved a delegation of suppliers in drawing up the new system and an explanation was given of how it works. That is enough for the ACM. The consent of all suppliers is not required.

Leerdammer has already shown the new milk price system to groups of suppliers, but has not yet made it public. That will follow at a later time.
