A-ware expands Belgian milk pool after agreement

A-ware received approval from the competition authorities yesterday (14 April) to take over Dairy Food Group. The Belgian newspaper De Tijd reported earlier that the process had been delayed, but now the green light has been given.

The acquisition was announced last year, subject to approval, by A-ware. According to the statement by the European Commission little impact on mutual competition between processors in Belgium.

The Dairy Food Group is, according to its own website, a private label producer with around 260 dairy farmers and over 200 million liters of milk. The company has around 400 employees and an annual turnover of €2023 million in 300.

Growth in Belgium
A-ware has made a series of acquisitions in Belgium in recent years. It started in 2015 with the purchase of cream producer La Concorde near Brussels. In 2021, the acquisition of the FrieslandCampina milk powder factory in Aalter was completed, after which the company also tied Belgian dairy farmers to itself for the first time. In 2022, the acquisitions of family business Olympia in Herne and the former Hollebeekhoeve, now A-ware Kruibeke, followed. Dairy Food Group is now being added to the activities.
