Coöperatie EkoHolland Vee & Vlees is going to collaborate with Van Loon. Together they want to set up a chain for organic calves. That is quite unique, since almost all calves from organic dairy farming are currently fattened conventionally.
After extensive negotiations with various parties, Eko Holland has decided to work together with Van Loon. In doing so, the organisation is responding to a clear gap in the market. Most calves from organic dairy farming still end up in the conventional circuit, to the great frustration of many organic dairy farmers.
Van Loon is going to set up an organic calf chain, in which calves are fattened. The animals remain with the dairy farmers affiliated with Eko Holland for the first three months. They are then transferred to the fatteners of Van Loon. According to Eko Holland cattle and meat, a fair price is paid for the starter calves. Eko Holland believes it has made for the slaughter cattle that are sold to the Van Loon group.
